How You Can HelpThe cost of bringing a child from Belarus to Teesside is £350 at present. This amount covers the airfare and visa for each child. To continue bringing children to our area we need to continually fundraise. To enable us to bring parties of youngsters to our area every year and to give them the time of their lives while here, costs thousands of pounds - all of which we have to raise locally. It is a tough challenge but one that, so far, our link members, supporters and their friends have risen to with enthusiasm, energy and generosity. The more of us there are involved with CCLL Teesside, the more we can do to add a little sunshine into the bleak lives of the children of Belarus. Even if you feel unable to contribute financially or your home is not large enough to accommodate guests, please see below for other ways in which you can help us and do please Contact Us should you require further details on anything you read.HostingThis involves providing accommodation for children for either a two or a four week period. Although not essential, we do recommend that you host two children together so that they have someone to talk to in their own language, share experiences with and generally befriend. Because the link organises activities at least three times a week for the children as a group, you do not have to be at home to feed and entertain them every day and evening throughout their stay. Indeed, while we are sure that you will want to spend a lot of time getting to know your young visitors, you will also need an occasional break! For that reason, and because we recognise that you may also have other commitments during your period as a host, we also have supporters…SupportersThese are generally people who, due to lack of space, time or confidence, are unable to be hosts but still want to meet and be involved with the visiting children. They willingly give ad hoc assistance to Hosts – be it taking the children out for an afternoon to give the host a break, giving them a lift to or from an organised activity or having them for a meal – or accompany the group on a trip when an extra pair of eyes or hands is invaluable. FundraisingWe would love you to support us by attending one (or more!) of the fundraising functions listed on our events page. You are also more than welcome to organise an event yourself, thus publicising our charity among your friends, neighbours and work colleagues – and maybe encouraging them too to give their support. If you do arrange an event, please Contact Us so that we can promote it among our members and, if you wish, on our website. Clothing DonationsIn the month prior to a visit by the children, we are grateful for the donation of good quality children’s clothing. Soon after their arrival, they are taken by their hosts to the clothing storage and encouraged to choose clothes for themselves. Many also select items for their siblings too. Thus we welcome clothing for any age up to 16.Corporate SupportSince we established the Teesside Link, we have received invaluable sponsorship and support from many companies throughout the area (see our Supporters Page). This varies from the donation of items (eg boots and holdalls) or gifts for the children to take home, the offer of free services (eye tests, coach hire, use of leisure facilities), money raised by employees or a contribution from the company charity fund. If you run a business and think you can help us, or you want to persuade your boss to do so, please Contact Us for more information on the charity and its needs.
